Intent.

My work in the second semester of my second year aims to explore ways of creating abstract images. Primarily on a large scale and with paint, however I aim to explore and mix together as many different mediums as possible. Attempting to create work that conveys a sense of emotion or energy from a flat image, drawing a viewer fully into my work and hopefully creating an almost meditative effect. My abstract work could also be seen as an attempt to add something bold to a blank white cube space, injecting raw energy or balance using the most basic elements of colour and shape.

As a sideline to this main project I will also explore portraiture, which has interested me in the past. Hopefully my abstract work and exploration of basic elements of composition, colour and use of materials will inform my portrait making and develop this also. The subject matter for which will draw upon other interests I have such as history, literature or music.

The artists I will be looking at as part of this project will first of all be the abstract expressionists of the 1940's/50's, but I will also explore more contemporary abstract artists.
