Cy Twombly

In order to develop my mark making technique and create works with more visual motion and energy, Inhave been look at Cy Twombly’s work (b. 1928-2011).

Which was usually of a large scale, something I want to push further and further in my own work. His marks are very calligraphic and graffiti like. With interesting choice of colour. Quite often a very dark or very light solid background, and contrast of marks. His marks are made very freely, without hesitation and with a very painterly feel. Looking at works such as ‘Untitled’ (1967) below, has made me let go when creating marks, making them more more automatic and carefree. Which conveys much more energy and power.
