Abstract Expressionism - Orginal Ideas and Concepts
Abstract Expressionism originated from a group of artists called the Abstract Expressionists or New York School. These artists, including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning.
They were inspired by the idea that art should come from the unconscious mind, and while creating art that was abstract, it was also expressive and filled with emotion and energy. There is also a lot of automatism within their work, attempting to let subconscious impulses create the marks and compositions of their paintings.
It is this concept I aim to explore within my current and previous projects.

‘Abstraction’ 1949 - 1950, Willem de Kooning

‘Untitled’ 1950, Jackson Pollock

‘Mahoning’ 1956 - Franz Kline
