Initial Abstract Work/Illustration/Influences from Franz Kline & Jackson Pollock
After visiting the Fruitmarket gallery and looking at William Kentridge's work involving illustration, I have decided to explore this more within my own work regarding portraiture. Below are example of free hand and traced drawings of the author William S. Burroughs. These drawings could be then replicated on a larger scale with different materials or edited. (Examples below).

The work below shows my initial experimentation with abstract painting and drawing. As I have been influenced recently by Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline, I have decided to experiment with gestural mark making using paint on canvas, layering coloured paint similar to Kline's black and white compositions. Which I think is effective and should be experimented with further. Using different kinds of composition and colour combination.
After studying Jackson Pollock's compositions using paint dripped onto the canvas to create automatic splashed lines, I have decided to use the drawing materials from the drawings above and experiment with allover 'scribble' compositions. Taking Pollock's all over idea and recreating it in a very simple manor. These drawn compositions to me look very energetic and could be recreated with paint or drawings could be edited/enlarged. (Examples of both work below)
