Peter McAdam Talk/Christopher Wool Research

Peter McAdam, an artist based in the North East, has recently given a talk within the university. His work draws upon influences from surrealism and dada and incorporates multiple layers of print/collage. I was very interested in his work, and especially how seemingly smooth layers were blended together and faded with varied use of colour and found image. This work has made me think about how I could mix together my abstract work with illustrative work. Also incorporating text and print. It has also made me think more in general about printmaking in a broader sense and about how I could create abstract prints, to experiment further with abstract image making processes. (examples of his work shown below)

Tract 01 - Mixed Media

Time - Mixed Media

Another artist I have recently been researching is Christopher Wool. His minimalist abstract work is what I am most interested in. Large spray painted loops, explosive paint splashes and layered smudges, all on a large scale, explore how expressive marks can be displayed in the most simple way. Showing in the rawest sense in painting, energy, motion and mood. His work has prompted me to explore more minimal marks and other minimalist artists (Examples of his work shown below).
