Recently Jadesola Fadojutimi and Neena Percy have given lectures within the university. I was very interested in both of these artists paintings, but especially the work of Jadesola Fadojutimi. Her abstract paintings combined and merged a large color palette, soft shapes and brush strokes to create large works that were interesting and pulled a viewer into them. To me they could possibly create a calming almost meditative effect, similar to the soft forms and colours within Mark Rothko's work. This has again prompted me to explore a more diverse colour palette and also explore creating more carefully made compositions as well as automatic 'all over' compositions (Examples of her work shown below).

Neena Percy's work which most interested me were 3D paintings that had been made from acrylic paint, which had been applied to a surface with a cake icing tool, left to dry then removed. Creating a lacy mesh, which in the shape of underwear was draped from other paintings or surfaces. Referencing the draping of textiles in historic paintings as symbols of wealth.
